1st half of year predictions for 2012 NEWS-Kis-My-Ft2
NEWS is probably not going to be able to do too much for the first couple of months in 2012 if just because Johnny’s has to shift gears a bit with them now that they don’t have to take breaks for Kanjani8 to do something. I see that March will probably be the most likely month for their comeback single, which would be actually rather fitting seeing that the comeback single after the 2006 hiatus came out in March as well. I would love to see February but I think that month will be too full with other releases wit this winter drama season having so many Johnny’s in starring roles and having a good chance of their respective groups to do the theme songs for them. Other than that I think things are looking up for the group in general now that the remaining four can fully commit themselves to the group and there won’t be any need for them to take long breaks to do something else. I do hope around the middle of the year we’ll get another single at least.
I can see Kanjani8 having a similar year in 2012 to 2011. They are in a good spot for them, they may not be as mega popular as Arashi but they have risen in popularity enough that none of the members should have to worry about not having enough work. This year though is their 8th anniversary, and as they didn’t really do anything for their 5th like most groups do I’m sure they are planning something special for this year. I do think they will keep their release pattern to make sure they have a winter concert tour as they do need the Kyocera Dome in Osaka for Johnny’s Countdown as it seems to get more and more crowded every year at the Tokyo Dome.
KAT-TUN looks to be set to have a much better year with 2012 than with 2011. While their annual tour had to be cancelled they were able to at least keep releasing singles on a regular basis for the most part and with their next album, CHAIN, coming out in January they are set to begin touring again shortly after. Kamenashi Kazuya hit it big with his recent drama, Ningen Bemu, and it’s the kind of drama I can see getting a SP for it at some point after its run. But I think this should him and the group rise again after the fall they experienced with Akanishi Jin left when it comes to sales. They will probably keep the same release pattern for the most part so I don’t think KAT-TUN fans will be left wanting this year.
With a NYC single out of the way so quickly in the year it could mean Hey! Say! JUMP could actually have a rather normal year when it comes to releases. I think for the first half of the year we will definitely see a single release and I would think an album is a possibility. 2nd half of year predictions, debuted groups
Well summer has come and the year is about half way over now. The first half had some big surprises, both good and bad and mostly unpredictable. Hopefully the rest of the year will be calmer and things can start getting back to normal as things can get for Japan. I'll just be covering debuted (or officially set to debut) groups as I'm sure I'll get long winded about the Juniors.
SMAP looks like they'll manage as they always have the rest of the year. They're still one of the most popular Japanese artists and will keep busy with variety programs, dramas and movies. I can see them either releasing another single or a new album before the end of the year to keep their 20th anniversary celebration on track. Very few artists reach that hallmark, especially idol groups so I can't see Johnny's not wanting to do something for it for one of their top groups.
TOKIO has enough regular work they will continue doing. I am hoping though they will finally release an album before the end of the year. As they've already done a concert for this year I doubt they'll do another, though if they do release a new album they may tour next year.
Like the rest of the older groups Kinki Kids really doesn't seem all that affected by the first half of the year. Koichi has Endless Shock to keep him busy and I'm sure Tsuyoshi will find something for him to do. They also have a single coming up in a couple of weeks so they'll have their single for the year. Wouldn't be surprised if they do the usual tour in Winter so they'll have the Tokyo Dome for Countdown like usual.
As they haven't released a single this year I'll predict that V6 will release one before the end of the year. Though I don't see them doing much else. Usually I would assume they would have a tour still, either as a full group or one of the sub-units, but it doesn't look like there will be as many concert tours this year as there usually are and I can see them being one of the groups that will not be making their usual yearly tour.
Being one of the top groups more or less ensures that Arashi will continue to have the kind of releases they would usually. Which can be seen with the fact they have a concert DVD and a studio album coming up to be released over the summer as well as a tour lined up to take them through to early next year. I'll predict they'll have at least one more single that will be released, maybe two, before the year ends.
Tackey & Tsubasa are hard to guess about what will happen with them. The only thing that seems certain with them are the musical productions they keep themselves busy with. Release-wise I wouldn't be surprised if we don't anything more from them, together or as soloist.
I'd guess that we'd get at least a single from NEWS before the end of the year. I know there was a rumor for one for a July release but unless it ends up being late July I don't see that being more than a rumor. But as Yamapi's solo concert winds down and if Kanjani8 doesn't have anything lined up anytime soon I can see a single for the group being released in the next few months.

They're still hampered a bit with having to share members with NYC but they've been doing better with balancing the two groups. With any luck we'll get one more single from them before the end of the year or at latest early 2012. They're also one of the lucky groups that will be able to tour this year and have SUMMARY over the summer. It'll be interesting to see if they'll do the usual winter tour this year.
I don't see any new releases for Akanishi Jin until after he finishes filming for the 47 Ronin movie. And if anything it'll probably be another Japanese single.

They've had their debut single pushed back to sometime this summer and personally I'm going to guess it'll be sometime in August at this point. The tie-in to the Ikemen Desu ne drama will be a help though and make August the ideal month as then there will be anticipation built up from the drama for the release and the single should get a sales boost every time an episode airs once it has been released. Luckily they still have their tour and it seems to still be on schedule. I can see them getting at least one more single out before the end of the year and maybe we can finally get a concert DVD from them if not this year but next year.
And I guess I'll stick NYC here as well. I think it's possible for them to release another single before the end of the year but honestly they've already released something this year so they don't really need to and they can just use Yumetamago to be their end of year song.
And that about rounds everything up for the debuted groups.

Movie casting news
A couple of announcements about movie castings have come out recently.
First off Kusanagi Tsuyoshi will have a part in the upcoming Japanese movie Suteki na Kanashibari. It doesn't mention what role he has but as the main cast has been announced it probably won't be big.

Akanishi Jin is set to be in the Hollywood adaption of the 47 Ronin movie that will star Keanu Reeves. Jin will play the role of Oishi Chikara, which is one of the more prominent roles in the story.

I'm happy for Jin, as even if his music career doesn't go anywhere in the U.S. if he can get a good foot into movies he may still find success in the States after all. So I hope he does well and the movie as well as it could lead to bigger things for him.

Jin Akanishi free ticket contest
I know I've fallen behind with news and such but I'll try to catch up by the end of the week. And to start I'm sharing some news I stumbled upon today.
Over at the video streaming site, Crunchyroll, they are holding a contest giving away five tickets for each of the concerts Akanishi Jin will be having in his U.S. tour. It is for Crunchyroll members only as you have to be able to post in their forums, but joining the site is free.

A little bit of this and that.
I admit I was getting worried about what to post today as I really couldn't find anything to write about yesterday and felt too tired to write anything that required anything more than basic thought. But thankfully there are some little Johnny's related news that came out today.
First off it's been reported by the fan club members of You & J (the official Johnny's fan club for groups NEWS, Kanjani8 & KAT-TUN) that Akanishi Jin is now listed as a solo artist for the fan club. To me this makes sense as I'm sure there are many KAT-TUN fans that are also Jin fans so they can still ballot for tickets for his solo stuff without having to pay fees for another fan club.

To celebrate their 200th episode the show, Music Lovers, will be having a special Arashi episode. The episode will have special performances of album tracks from Arashi's latest album. And to even go further to make this episode and the performances more unique the audience will be male-only. The episode will air on August 22nd.

KAT-TUN looks to changing to KaT-TUN
Because I don't think news like this can really wait before it gets spread everywhere, but it looks like Akanishi Jin will be leaving KAT-TUN after all.
Even though I know I've speculated about him leaving after his solo concerts in the U.S. were announced this has taken me by surprise. But it being reported that Kitagawa Johnny himself announced it earlier today at a press conference. Of course earlier in the day it was just an announcement that the final decision will be made after Jin's current solo tour ended and that he just wouldn't be returning to the group for some time but more information has come out and it looks like it's actually rather likely that Jin will permanently be leaving the group this time around.
KAT-TUN is keeping its name intact much the same way Kis-My-Ft2 did when they lost Iida and Kitayama became the 'Ki', with Kamenashi Kazuya now being the 'KA' instead of just the 'K'. And they will also stay together as a group but now as a five man unit instead of their original 6 members.

New concert tours and a PLAYZONE CD release
First off Takizawa Hideaki will be having a short solo concert tour beginning at the end of July and will end mid-August. The dates are up on Johnny's net, though it looks like the html is borked as it has the button for concert goods even though the page doesn't exist yet.
Also at Akanishi Jin's concerts over the weekend it was announced he will be doing a tour in the U.S. In total he will be performing in seven cities, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Anaheim, and Houston. No dates or venues have been announced yet.

It's titled PLAYZONE 2010 ROAD TO PLAYZONE and it will come out the same day as Yamapi's single, July 28th. Other than price and the fact is will have 15 tracks there is no other information.

I'm personally still unsure what I would want but it looks like Johnny's was smart to make sure to stress that Jin's American solo concerts aren't signs that he's leaving the group.
I recently took a look at Hey! Say! JUMP's releases and noticed that they haven't released a concert DVD yet this year. They had releases the past two years, it was the only release in 2009 from them, so this question is 'Which HSJ concert should get a DVD release this year?'.

I'm personally still unsure what I would want but it looks like Johnny's was smart to make sure to stress that Jin's American solo concerts aren't signs that he's leaving the group.

KAT-TUN's Going! without Akanishi
It has been announced that KAT-TUN's upcoming single Going! will only feature the vocals of the 5 members of KAT-TUN that will be doing their world tour. Or more simply put Akanishi Jin will once again be left out of a KAT-TUN single. The last time this happened was back when he left to go the U.S. for six months and he was not on the Bokura no Machi de single. Of course he had little to no presence on the album cartoon KAT-TUN II You either because of his absence.
This has caused a stir and of course rumors that Jin may be leaving the group as he starts up activity in the States. Especially with reports that there is nothing scheduled for him to do once he ends his activities in the U.S. in October. Johnny's has denied this rumor and has insisted that he will still be a member of the group but has not let out any other official confirmation.

Honestly I don't think there's enough information that anyone outside of the agency is privy to that can confirm or deny the rumor. I'm sure if Jin's solo concerts prove to be incredibly successful Johnny's may try other attempts to break in to the U.S. market, but they aren't an agency that does things haphazardly or without making sure they have a good chance of success. While they may like to surprise the fans I don't think they enjoy surprises much themselves.
Plus this isn't the first time Jin has taken a leave of absence from the group so the chances of him eventually coming back to rejoin with KAT-TUN are probably just as good as him not, if not better as at least with KAT-TUN he has job security and something to do as it has proven very difficult for an Asian artist to break in to the U.S. so I'm sure if Johnny's wants to have him try it will be after they know they have the right connections to do so successfully.

Jin's solo U.S. concert website & more information for the KAT-TUN tour
Well like usual it looks like Johnny's made sure to have everything ready when they made their announcements yesterday as there is a special website just for Jin's solo U.S. tour, which is being treated as an extension of his You & Jin concerts as it's being called You & Jin U.S.A. and is still listed as being produced by Johnny H. Kitagawa.

So far the website only has the information for when & where the L.A. concerts will take place and the date the tickets for it will go on sale, April 15th. The venue listed, Club Nokia, only holds 2,000 people so I would recommend to anyone trying to go to make sure to be ready for the mad grab it's bound to be when the tickets go on sale that day as I have the feeling that this is going to sell out quick even with three shows scheduled.
Of course the thing I'm most amazed at is that they actually have a picture of Jin on the website that doesn't look like it's had some weird filter put on it. It is black and white but still much clearer than any of the other pictures of Johnny's you will usually find on official websites. I guess it might be a sign that Johnny's realizes that they have to approach the U.S. market differently and need to lax some policies as most are actually not going to know who their talents are here.
On another note Johnny's net has the information up for KAT-TUN's spring-summer tour. It's broken up into two legs, the first being called Part 1: Arena Tour, which of course has them performing at various arenas around Japan. This part begins in early May and ends near the end of June. The second part is Part 2: World Big Tour, which has the overseas venues as well as the dome concerts in Japan in Tokyo and Osaka. Under each part it lists the five that will be participating in the tours, but for the Part 2 Kis-My-Ft2 is also listed so it can be assumed that they will also be heading overseas with KT-TUN.
What's also interesting is that there are two empty brackets at the end of this. In the article yesterday it was mentioned that they were thinking of doing a concert in Hawaii, which would at least make calling this tour leg a 'world tour' a bit more valid as it's just an Asian tour as things stand now. So it will be interesting to see if those brackets fill with new stops or just disappear as the tour dates get closer.

KT-TUN tour Asia while Jin has L.A. concerts
There has been a couple of big announcements for KAT-TUN just made that I'm sure will stir a lot of mixed feelings for KAT-TUN fans.
The first is that KAT-TUN will be having their first Asia tour beginning at the end of July and will go on to the end of August that will have them performing in the cities of Bangkok, Seoul and Taipei.
The second is that Akanishi Jin will not be a part of this tour as he will be heading over to the U.S. to perform solo concerts there. So far he is only confirmed for performing in L.A. but there are plans being made to extend it into a tour in the U.S.
It is reported that Jin had discussed not being in the Asia tour with the other members of the group and they all agreed that he should not pass up on the opportunity to tour in the U.S.

Honestly I'm not a big Jin fan, though I do think he has his moments from time to time, but I do feel happy for him about this news. I think this really is something he really wants to do and has been wanting to do for sometime. Also he seems to be happier doing solo work then when he has to be with his group so I think it might be for the best.
Also it isn't the first time KAT-TUN has gone without him for some time so I don't think it will be the big shake up it was when he left to study abroad a few years back. Though I'm sure there are fans that will miss him terribly for not being a part of the group tour.
But for some fan speculation on how this all could be actually some really good news for KAT-TUN fans. After debuting the group hasn't done a concert without a new album so I wouldn't be surprised if there are some releases coming up soon, as they only have one post Break the Records single so far. So I would assume if they don't get a new album out they will have at least a new single that they can record before Jin leaves for America or maybe pop out a mini album like Tegomass did for their upcoming tour. I think it would be just a bit too cruel to not have anything before the tours though seeing as Jin could be gone until sometime in October if he's able to get the visa to do so.

LANDS mini-album
Just doing a quick update before I head off to school. But a mini-album for LANDS (Akanishi Jin) has been announced to be released on January 13th, 2010 and will have eight tracks, which includes the track of the recently released single BANDAGE. The mini-album is titled Olympus and no other information is available at this time. The usual online stores have it up for pre-order already and it looks to be only one version of the album, but there is a first press item, which is a 24 page booklet.
So it looks like Jin fans still have a lot to look forward to in the next couple of months.

Jin's solo concert, and various other Johnny's tidbits
Because Johnny's seems like it's willing to go all out for Akanishi Jin's promotion with his movie coming out soon he will be getting his own solo concert. Or something that will be concert like at least, as it's described as a concert yet it's under the butai section at Johnny's net. Either way Jin will be singing at some point, both new and old songs from what was said in the news reports.
The concerts will be held throughout February at a hefty 11000Yen (about 120USD) ticket price. So I think that kills my liklihood of going, as I definitely do not like Jin enough to pay that much to see him, even though he seems to be more enjoyable to watch solo than when he is with KAT-TUN.
Of course I watched Music Station like usual tonight. I think if Jin was around people he liked, like Yamapi, more often I might like him a bit more. He was actually a bit cute as Yamapi was picking on him and of course his flailing after Yamapi touched his sensitive spot was pretty epic. And Yamapi needs to let this cute, devilish side of him out more as I found him rather cute as well as he goofed off with his friend.
Also there was a commercial for the Snow Prince single which had what looked like a couple of clips from what is most likely the PV for the song. It's the boys singing as the sit in chairs on a winter themed set, so nothing too exciting and hopefully the full PV will have more going on in it than that.
Also Yamapi will be returning to Music Station next week. I would have though Jin would be the one back, as his single actually releases that week but I guess not.
And I went looking for the Hey! Say! JUMP photo book today and in the three bookshops I checked I didn't find a single copy. The closest I got to finding one was one of the stores had a sign saying they were taking pre-orders for it, so I guess today isn't the release date afterall.
And tomorrow I'll be heading down to Yokohama Arena for the first concert of Yamapi's solo concerts. So expect my twitter to be active tomorrow and at least photos of the concert goods, followed by a concert report at some point afterwards. And since I don't have a good seat (in fact no seat at all, as it's a standing ticket) I'll probably go ahead and take notes, so hopefully I'll get as much as I can down.
