Well this year is Kanjani8's 8th anniversary since their debut single was released and they have announced a couple of projects that look like they will be kicking things off for them.
The first is that Nishikido Ryo will be starring in a drama series on TBS this spring titled, Papa wa Idol. He will be starring as himself as the plot revolves around a woman with three children marrying an idol, who has to keep it a secret and decide whether or not to continue with his idol career or stay married. The drama is a remake of one that starred the female idol Nakayama Miho back in 1987.
The rest of Kanjani8 will be making an appearance in the drama and there are plans to have the drama be connected to other programs once it begins airing.

Then next is the more recent announcement that Kanjani8 will be starring in a movie this year. The movie will feature them as the Eito Rangers from their concert skits. The movie will be set in the near future of 2035 and will have them as super heroes battling an evil organization.
The filming will begin on March 6th and the movie is set to hit theaters on July 28th, 2012.

I cannot imagine anyone but K8 doing the theme songs for both the drama and the movie, so it seems like this will set them up for singles in spring and summer. Which makes sense as they will be able to keep their usual release schedule of having an album out in winter for a winter tour so they can have the Kyocera Dome for next Johnny's Countdown. Though I do expect that they will try to do something special with the next album as this is the year they are choosing to celebrate their debut anniversary with something big.
But in any case this year is going to be great for K8 and their fans.
